BUILD YOUR OWN VACATION BUDGET
How much will your Lake Tahoe trip cost? Add your own lodging, meal, transportation and activity prices to estimate the whole-group budget and an equal share per traveler. Compare a weekend, family stay or ski trip without treating a generic average as a quote.
No signup or email required. Prices are your inputs, not live hotel, flight or attraction rates. The default three nights, four meal days and 10% contingency are editable examples, not recommended spending levels.
Use nonnegative amounts, count all rooms in the nightly lodging figure, and enter 0 for costs you do not have. The traveler selector supports one to twelve people. The result is an equal split, not a separate adult or child price.

Compare two trip budgets, copy a detailed summary or print your plan with the downloadable version. It calculates from your own prices, works without an internet connection and does not send your entries anywhere.
Download the offline budget planner (ZIP, 7 KB)
How to use it: Extract the ZIP, then open lake-tahoe-offline-budget-planner.html in a modern web browser. The ZIP includes instructions. This is a browser-based HTML tool, not an app installer.
Included: A temporary comparison scenario, copyable totals, printing, example inputs and checks for negative costs, missing values and invalid traveler counts. The scenario lasts only while the file stays open, so copy or print before closing.
The download uses JavaScript for calculations, but no external scripts or live price feeds. Website links need an internet connection. Automatic copying depends on your browser; manual copying is available. Prefer to stay online? Use the online calculator.
Compare two hotels, a rental car versus shuttles, or a shorter stay versus a longer trip. Use the same travelers and dates for like-for-like comparisons, or record the differences. Run each plan through the calculator and copy its results into your own notes or a printed worksheet.
This is a manual worksheet, not a second automatic calculator. Open this section before printing the page from your browser, or copy the table into your notes. The blank cells are for your own figures; they are not online input fields. No download, email address or account is needed to use this worksheet.

Illustrative arithmetic, not Tahoe rates: Plan A has $900 in all-in lodging plus $180 in transportation and parking, totaling $1,080 before food and activities. Plan B has $780 in lodging plus $340 in transportation and parking, totaling $1,120. With other costs equal and no contingency, Plan B costs $40 more despite the cheaper room. Use actual quotes to see whether that tradeoff applies to your trip.
Check hotel fees and included parking, compare airport transfers and local transit, and choose lower-cost activities before filling in your figures. A cheaper option is only useful when its location and arrangements fit your trip.
Lodging: Nights multiplied by the combined nightly cost of all rooms, plus additional taxes and fees for the stay.
Food: Travelers multiplied by meal days and the average food budget per traveler per day.
Subtotal: Lodging plus food, transportation, parking, activities and other costs.
Contingency: The subtotal multiplied by your chosen percentage, divided by 100. Add this reserve to the subtotal for the group total, then divide by the traveler count for an equal per-person share.
If your lodging figure already includes tax, cleaning or resort fees, do not add those charges again. For a stay with different nightly rates, divide the room-price total by the number of nights to enter an average. Add all rooms together before entering that nightly figure.
Transportation, parking, activities and other costs are whole-group, whole-trip totals. Food is the exception: it is per traveler per day. Hotel nights and meal days are deliberately separate, so a day trip can have zero hotel nights and one meal day.
The contingency is not a tax calculation. Use the actual fees in your provider's quote; the calculator does not determine local tax rates or whether a charge applies.
Illustrative numbers only. These invented amounts demonstrate the calculation. They are not current Tahoe prices, averages or an advertised package.
| Example input or result | Amount |
|---|---|
| Lodging: 3 nights at $200, plus $90 extra fees | $690 |
| Food: 2 travelers, 4 days, $50 per person per day | $400 |
| Whole-group transportation | $250 |
| Trip parking | $30 |
| Activities for the group | $120 |
| Other costs | $0 |
| Subtotal | $1,490 |
| Optional 10% contingency | $149 |
| Total trip budget | $1,639 |
| Equal share per traveler | $819.50 |
For four travelers with zero lodging nights, one meal day at $25 each, $80 transportation, $20 parking and no other costs or contingency, the invented example totals $200 for the group, or $50 each. Change those numbers to your own plan rather than using them as local price estimates.
Build the schedule with our one-, three-, five- and seven-day itineraries. Compare ski resorts, boat tours or family activities before entering actual ticket and equipment prices.
No. It calculates from the numbers you enter. Use quotes for your travel dates and include all relevant fees. A zero in an unused or unfilled category is not a promise that the item is free.
Yes. Count every traveler included in the budget, use an average food allowance across the group, and enter the actual total activity charges for adults and children together. Add the nightly prices of all rooms. The per-traveler result divides the group total equally; it does not calculate age-specific charges.
Calculate one scenario, note the total, then replace transport and parking with the alternative costs. Include the whole party and return journeys. This calculator does not verify that a route or shuttle operates on your dates.
Enter the actual number of hotel nights and meal days in each scenario. Replace rates and activity costs as needed rather than assuming every extra day costs the same. Record the first result before changing inputs; there is no saved-trip account.
It is an optional amount you choose to leave unallocated. It does not replace confirmed taxes, required fees or insurance. Use zero to see the subtotal without a reserve.
