Lake Tahoe Boat Tours: Winter Cruises, Prices and Departure Points

Operator pages and fares reviewed October 25, 2026. Winter availability remains date-specific.

For a Lake Tahoe boat tour, choose your departure shore first, then the cruise. Compare Spirit of Tahoe from Ski Run Marina, M.S. Dixie II from Zephyr Cove, Tahoe Gal from Tahoe City, Bleu Wave from Tahoe Keys Marina, and Boat Tahoe for a private captained charter. A shorter drive to the right dock can matter more than a small difference in ticket price.

This is an editorial comparison of published routes, fares and booking information, not a firsthand test or a visitor-rating survey. Public cruises sell individual tickets; private charters quote a boat and trip. Compare the complete cost for your actual group.

Lake Tahoe Winter Boat Tours: Three Places to Start

M.S. Dixie II, Spirit of Tahoe and Bleu Wave are the winter candidates in this comparison. Tahoe Gal and Boat Tahoe advertise May–October seasons. A year-round description does not guarantee a departure on your date.

  • M.S. Dixie II: the official booking calendar offered Saturday, December 12, 2026, noon–2:15 p.m. when checked October 25. See the dated family quote including fees below.
  • Spirit of Tahoe: advertised year-round, with heated indoor seating and two bathrooms. Its current fall timetable, effective October 19, lists 1–3 p.m. Emerald Bay and 4–6 p.m. sunset cruises. Confirm your winter date; these are not a fixed all-winter timetable.
  • Bleu Wave: advertises year-round public cruises, with climate-controlled indoor facilities and restrooms. We have not verified a specific December departure or final checkout total.

For a North Shore stay, a South Shore cruise adds a winter drive. Check road conditions, your exact departure marina and the cancellation deadline before committing. A boat reservation does not guarantee an open road to the dock.

Lake Tahoe Boat Tour Comparison

Prices below are published ticket amounts or starting prices, not a final checkout quote. Select your date, passenger ages and product before paying. Food, parking and other charges may differ. A happy-hour price is not the price of a longer Emerald Bay trip.

What Will a Cruise Cost Your Family or Group?

A dated checkout example · checked October 25

Two adults + two children: $358.28 on M.S. Dixie II

For the December 12, 2026, noon–2:15 p.m. daytime scenic cruise, the official reservation form showed two adults (12+) at $109 each and two children (3–11) at $60 each. This fits a family with children aged five and eight.

  • Tickets: $338.00
  • Displayed fees: $20.28
  • Displayed tax: $0.00
  • Total: $358.28, with “Zephyr Cove Resort (No Pick Up)” selected.

This is a researched quote, not a reservation or a promise of future availability. Meals and getting to the marina are separate planning costs. Zephyr Cove’s published marina policy waives its parking fee in winter; see the parking note below before adding a summer parking charge to this December example. Recheck the selected date and final amount in the official booking calendar.

For comparison, Bleu Wave’s listed $139.10 age-four-and-up fare gives $556.40 for the same four people before any additional checkout charges. That is a ticket calculation, not a verified December quote. It also includes different drinks and snacks, so the two totals do not describe identical packages. Check Bleu Wave’s product and inclusions.

For a private charter, divide the complete quoted boat cost by the number actually traveling. A hypothetical $900 charter shared by six people is $150 each; shared by nine people, it is $100 each. The $900 is an arithmetic example, not a Boat Tahoe price. The larger group must fit the particular boat’s confirmed passenger limit.

Include everyone’s tickets, transport to the marina, parking, meals and any separate mandatory charges. Check what is already included before adding it again. Use the Lake Tahoe trip cost calculator to compare the full outing rather than assuming a private charter always costs more per person.

1. Spirit of Tahoe and Safari Rose: Ski Run Marina

Consider these for: a South Lake Tahoe departure with a choice between regular sightseeing and seasonal specialty cruises. Tahoe Cruises describes Spirit of Tahoe as its year-round Emerald Bay sightseeing boat and Safari Rose as a summer-and-fall specialty yacht. They are separate products, not interchangeable names for one boat.

Boarding location: 900 Ski Run Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe. Map Ski Run Marina.

The booking page lists two-hour Spirit trips and requests arrival 30 minutes early. It also prohibits outside food and drinks, with food and beverages available onboard. Check special dietary or infant-feeding needs directly instead of assuming a picnic is permitted.

Current schedule: both the homepage and booking page list the fall timetable effective October 19: 1–3 p.m. Emerald Bay and 4–6 p.m. sunset. Use your dated confirmation for later winter departures, or call 775-588-1881. The operator’s yacht gallery shows Spirit’s cabin and decks and lists heated indoor seating, two bars and two bathrooms. Safari Rose’s heated cabin does not make its seasonal public cruises a winter option.

2. M.S. Dixie II: Zephyr Cove

Consider it for: a large paddlewheeler sightseeing trip. The operator requests check-in 30 minutes early. Select-area shuttles require booking at least two hours ahead; groups of 20+ have a transport fee.

Indoor comfort: Visit Lake Tahoe describes the boat as climate controlled. That does not guarantee a private table or a particular window seat. Ask about seating for your selected sightseeing product. Lower-deck accessibility and upper-deck access are different; see the boarding section below.

Departure: 760 U.S. Highway 50, Zephyr Cove. Map Zephyr Cove Resort. This is not Ski Run Marina.

Parking by season: the resort’s marina policy lists $12 daily parking in summer and no parking fee in winter. Its complimentary cruise shuttle is subject to availability; check the pickup arrangement when booking. A waived parking charge does not reserve a space or establish a cleared accessible route to the dock. Confirm the seasonal rate for your date if traveling near the changeover.

Read the deck layout, not today’s boarding conditions: this September 1, 2010 photograph shows M.S. Dixie II’s enclosed decks and exterior stairways. It helps explain why access to the lower deck and access to an upper deck are different questions. It does not establish the current gangway, interior seating, winter dock surface or wheelchair route. See the operator-specific boarding guidance below. 3. Tahoe Gal: Tahoe City and North Shore

Seasonal choice: the published schedule lists May–October. Do not plan a winter departure here without a specific confirmed offering.

Consider it for: a Tahoe City departure rather than driving to South Shore. The 3.5-hour Emerald Bay cruise lists $97 adults, $69 children and free toddlers, with food and drinks sold separately. Confirm age definitions in the booking flow rather than borrowing another operator’s child categories.

The 90-minute morning sightseeing cruise lists $76.32 for adults over 12 and $38.16 for ages 4-12 (checked October 16, 2026). Brunch is available for purchase, not automatically included. The daily cruise directory also lists happy hour from $70 and sunset from $82. These products have different routes and durations.

Departure: 952 North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City. Map the Tahoe Gal boarding location. For the longer Emerald Bay sailing, our recommendation is to make the cruise the main half-day activity and keep the next stop nearby.

4. Lake Tahoe Bleu Wave: A Public Yacht Cruise

Consider it for: a public cruise aboard a yacht with indoor and outdoor spaces, rather than a private boat. The Emerald Bay product page describes a two-hour tour, onboard restrooms and climate-controlled indoor facilities. It lists capacity up to 47, which does not predict how many people will book your sailing.

Young children are not automatically free: the listed fare is $26.75 for ages three and under. Ages four and older use the $139.10 category. The product lists selected drinks and snacks among its inclusions; check the actual booking details and any dietary needs before relying on them.

Departure: Tahoe Keys Marina, 2435 Venice Drive, South Lake Tahoe. Map Bleu Wave at Tahoe Keys Marina. The public-cruise directory advertises year-round sailings and a separate sunset option. Check your date and product rather than assuming every cruise operates daily.

5. Boat Tahoe: Private Captained Charters

Consider it for: a group that values a private boat and a route agreed with the captain. Boat Tahoe advertises captain-included tours and boat-dependent options for groups up to 13. Confirm your total passenger count, including children, against the particular vessel and booking arrangement.

Its 2026 season announcement identifies May through October operations and the larger pontoon option. A larger listed capacity does not apply to every boat. Request swimming time, sightseeing priorities or watersports when choosing the product, not after boarding.

Departure: Tahoe Keys Marina, 2435 Venice Drive East, South Lake Tahoe. Map Boat Tahoe’s marina location. The company serves visitors staying around the lake, but its homepage says trips depart from South Lake Tahoe. That is not a promise to collect passengers at any hotel dock.

Boarding, Children and Accessibility: Check the Actual Boat

M.S. Dixie II: wheelchairs are permitted and an accessible restroom is provided, but there is no elevator to the second deck. Check the operator’s access information.

Tahoe Gal: its published guidance limits wheelchair access to the lower deck and says guests must walk a few steps independently across the threshold. That can rule out a trip for some travelers. Confirm boarding assistance and your device before purchasing, rather than treating the phrase wheelchair accessible as a complete answer.

Spirit of Tahoe / Safari Rose: Tahoe Cruises’ published arrival FAQ says wheelchairs and strollers must be foldable to come aboard and may be opened again inside. That does not establish boarding access for someone who must remain seated in a wheelchair, or for a rigid-frame chair or mobility scooter. Before paying, call 775-588-1881 with your device and transfer requirements and ask about the exact boat, gangway and route to the restroom. For a traveler who needs to remain in their chair, start by checking M.S. Dixie II’s lower-deck arrangements rather than assuming all three winter operators offer equivalent access.

Every operator: ask about stroller storage, steps or gangways, restrooms, seating, infant tickets and any equipment your group needs. Do not infer a boat’s accessibility from its size. Tell the operator your requirements so they can answer for the exact vessel.

Cancellation Rules Are Not the Same Across Tours

M.S. Dixie II: the December 12 booking form says changes or cancellations more than 48 hours before departure receive a full refund; within 48 hours the full deposit is forfeited. Late arrival and no-shows are not refunded. For that noon Saturday example, act before noon Thursday, December 10, and leave extra margin. Save the terms attached to your own reservation.

Boat Tahoe: its policy generally refunds cancellations made more than 10 days ahead. Inside that window, bookings are nonrefundable without qualifying Travel Protection. The protection requires cancellation outside 24 hours, with its fee excluded from the refund. Listed holiday periods have stricter one-month terms. Boat Tahoe decides weather cancellations and says operator-canceled trips receive a full refund.

For other operators, read the terms attached to your selected ticket; do not apply these two examples to every cruise. Save the cancellation deadline with your confirmation. Poor visibility, an inconvenient forecast and the operator canceling a trip are different situations.

Before leaving, check your booking messages and the official Tahoe weather and road sources. A lake camera is visual context, not confirmation that a boat is departing. Let the operator make the sailing decision and choose a suitable town-based backup when necessary.

Build a Cruise Day Without Crossing the Lake Twice

Ski Run or Tahoe Keys departure: keep meals and the next activity on South Shore. Zephyr Cove departure: confirm the shuttle or parking arrangement before adding another stop. Tahoe City departure: keep the rest of the day in or near Tahoe City instead of adding a South Shore reservation.

These are planning suggestions, not timed routes. Add parking, check-in and boarding to the advertised cruise duration. Compare restaurants by shore, car-free transportation and one- to seven-day itineraries to keep the schedule practical.

Find the Winter Departure Marina

Zephyr Cove, Ski Run and Tahoe Keys are separate boarding locations. These maps orient you to the marina; they do not identify your assigned berth, ticket counter, cleared walkway or accessible parking space. Follow the operator’s confirmation for the final approach.

M.S. Dixie II · Zephyr Cove

760 U.S. Highway 50, Nevada. Arrive for check-in 30 minutes before departure. Limited parking makes a reserved shuttle worth considering; book it at least two hours ahead and confirm the actual pickup time.

Spirit of Tahoe · Ski Run

900 Ski Run Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe. The operator asks passengers to arrive 30 minutes early at its plaza ticket office. Use the public restroom before boarding and confirm food restrictions.

Bleu Wave: Tahoe Keys Marina, 2435 Venice Drive, South Lake Tahoe. Open the Tahoe Keys departure map. Confirm the gate, meeting point and arrival deadline with the operator; a map pin alone is not a boarding instruction.

A Practical Noon Winter Cruise Plan

Example: the December 12 M.S. Dixie II sailing

  1. Before the cancellation deadline: check the forecast and your travel plan, save the ticket terms, and decide whether to keep the trip. Do not wait until departure day to review a 48-hour refund window.
  2. Before leaving: check operator messages and road conditions. Bring layers, a warm outer layer and footwear suited to a wet or icy approach. Ask about boarding help beforehand.
  3. 11:15 a.m.: our suggested parking target, giving an extra 15 minutes before the operator’s 11:30 check-in. This allowance is not a measured parking or driving time.
  4. Noon–2:15 p.m.: the advertised sailing. Keep sightseeing food purchases separate from a dinner-cruise package.
  5. After docking: leave a flexible lunch window and stay on the same shore. A restaurant reservation immediately at 2:15 gives no disembarkation margin.
What if the roads or weather disrupt the outing?

Check the operator’s messages and call before making the drive. Ask how an operator-canceled sailing is handled and how that differs from your own inability to reach the dock. Do not assume poor visibility or a difficult road automatically creates a refund. Keep a nearby indoor meal or town activity as a flexible backup, without buying another nonrefundable reservation for the same time.

How do I compare heated cabins and boarding access?

Ask whether everyone can sit indoors, whether a particular seat can be reserved, which deck has the restroom, and whether your mobility device can reach it. Describe the device and any inability to climb steps. Confirm stroller storage, infant passenger counts and any assistance you need for the gangway. A heated cabin says nothing about the accessibility of the route onto it.

Lake Tahoe Boat Tour FAQs

Which boat tour is best for North Lake Tahoe?

Tahoe Gal is the Tahoe City departure in this comparison. Pick its specific cruise by route and duration. Other operators may welcome North Shore visitors without actually departing from North Shore.

Does every cruise visit Emerald Bay?

No. Select an Emerald Bay product where that is the priority. A shorter happy-hour or sightseeing sailing can follow a different route. Seeing Vikingsholm or Fannette Island from the boat does not establish a shore landing or admission to a building tour.

Is a private boat cheaper than public cruise tickets?

Sometimes the per-person arithmetic can favor a charter, but compare complete quotes, duration, passenger capacity and inclusions. Use the group-cost method above, not an unverified claim that one format is always cheaper.

Are babies and toddlers free?

Not on every cruise. Operators use different age bands and fares, and a free fare does not remove the need to include a child in the reservation. Check the passenger categories for the exact product.

Is lunch included?

Do not assume it from a cruise name. Tahoe Gal’s Emerald Bay and morning pages describe meals available for purchase; Bleu Wave lists selected snacks and drinks. Read the product inclusions and food restrictions before packing a bag or buying a meal.

Should I book a cruise or rent a boat myself?

Choose a public cruise for a scheduled shared trip, or a captained charter for a private group. A self-drive rental is a different responsibility. Use the boating and rental guide for that separate decision.
