Lake Tahoe Ski & Snowboard Rentals: Prices, Clothes & Pickup

Pick the rental shop around your first lesson or ski base, then compare the whole outfit. On the North Shore and in Truckee, start with Tahoe Dave’s or Palisades. On the South Shore, compare Powder House with Heavenly’s own rentals. Check your lesson package first: equipment may already be included.

By the I Love Lake Tahoe editorial team · Checked October 25, 2026. This is a researched planning comparison, not a shop inspection or selected-date booking quote. Published price examples are in U.S. dollars and exclude the charges identified below. Seasonal opening, inventory and final totals must be confirmed for your dates.

Which rental option fits your trip?

North Shore & Truckee

Tahoe Dave’s

Several town branches, clothing rentals and returns at another Dave’s shop. Good to compare if you want to collect equipment before reaching the mountain.

Prices and return rules

Olympic Valley & Alpine

Palisades Tahoe

Resort pickup and multi-day overnight ski/board storage. Match the rental location to your lesson base; prices depend on dates and availability.

Base-area pickup

South Lake Tahoe

Powder House

Independent shop rentals near the village, plus separate clothing. Compare its published package and helmet subtotal with the complete checkout quote.

Packages and exclusions

Heavenly bases & selected lodging

Heavenly rentals

Choose a resort shop or eligible delivery address. Clothing is not rented through this service. A village pickup is different from a California Lodge or Nevada-base pickup.

Pickup and delivery rules

Match lodging → rental pickup → lesson base

These planning diagrams connect the areas; they are not scaled maps or measured travel times. Select the exact shop on your reservation. Use the map links to check its location, then follow your lesson confirmation for the meeting point.

Tahoe City or North Shore lodging

Tahoe City / Kings Beach → local Tahoe Dave’s → your booked mountain and lesson base.

Tahoe City ski shop: 590 North Lake Blvd; separate boardshop: 600 North Lake Blvd. Kings Beach: 8299 North Lake Blvd.

Truckee or Olympic Valley lodging

Truckee Dave’s → mountain; or Olympic Valley / Alpine lodging → the matching resort rental shop.

Dave’s downtown: 10200 Donner Pass Road; Truckee West: 12047 Donner Pass Road; Olympic Valley: 3039 Highway 89, not the Palisades base rental shop.

Find on map

Heavenly Village or Stateline lodging

Village lodging → Powder House or Heavenly Sports → your confirmed Gondola/lesson meeting point.

Powder House Main: 4045 Lake Tahoe Blvd; Powder House at the Gondola: 1001 Heavenly Village Way #20. Heavenly Sports Marriott lists units #18 & #19 on Heavenly Village Way. These are separate businesses.

California Lodge or Nevada-side lodging

Lodging → rental shop at your selected base → that base’s lesson/check-in point.

Heavenly California Main Lodge: 3860 Saddle Road. Boulder: 140 South Benjamin Road. Stagecoach: 375 Quaking Aspen Road. Do not substitute Stagecoach for a Boulder lesson.

Location sources: Tahoe Dave’s branches, Powder House addresses and Heavenly rental directory. Dave’s Kings Beach page announces reopening October 31, 2026; Olympic Valley says reopening soon for kids’ seasonal rentals. Neither is proof that daily ski rentals are available today.

Regional orientation only. Town shops, mountain rental counters and lesson meeting points are separate stops. The links in each diagram identify specific shops.

Lesson-base detail: Palisades’ general rental shop is on the south side of the village between the Ticket & Pass Office and Parallel Mountain Sports. Alpine rentals are downstairs in Alpine Lodge, entered from the east near the gondola terminals. Adult lesson rentals have their own check-in instructions; allow the resort’s specified arrival time. Palisades and Alpine check-in guide.

For more shop choices, use our Heavenly and North Shore rental-location guide. Rental purchases do not automatically include a lift ticket, lesson or parking. Heavenly’s parking page mixes a 2026–27 no-reservation statement with older parking details; confirm the current charge for your base rather than assuming a rental makes parking free.

Adult and family rental cost examples

Same shopping list, not identical equipment: the examples compare each shop’s adult performance package, suitable children’s packages where needed, and helmets. Manufacturers, models and fit can differ. They use posted rates checked October 25, 2026, with no online coupon assumed.

These are subtotals, not final prices. Tahoe Dave’s terms add applicable sales tax and TBID assessment fees; the published terms do not give a single combined rate. Powder House excludes insurance and “R.E.F.” without stating the fee amount on its rate sheet. Ask each shop for the itemized mandatory charges and optional protection. Do not enter zero for an unknown fee.

One adult, one day: equipment and helmet

Dave’s $77 · Powder House $71

Dave’s: $65 performance package + $12 helmet. Powder House: $51 performance package + $20 helmet. Both examples include boots; ski packages include poles. Clothes, taxes, assessments/fees and protection are additional.

Compare this $6 subtotal difference with the pickup detour and return deadline. It does not establish which shop has the lower final bill.

Two adults and children aged 8 and 10: one day

Dave’s $248.80 · Powder House $256

Dave’s: 2 × $65 adult performance + 2 × $37.80 child beginner + 2 × $12 adult helmets + 2 × $9.60 child helmets. The helmet calculation applies its posted 20% accessory discount for ages 12 and under.

Powder House: 2 Ă— $51 adult performance + 2 Ă— $37 child packages + 4 Ă— $20 helmets. Its child ski listing specifies ages 12 and under. Both subtotals exclude clothes and the charges noted above; child fit still needs confirmation.

One adult needing jacket and pants: one or two days

One day: Dave’s $117 · Powder House $111

Add a $20 jacket and $20 pants to each one-day equipment-and-helmet example.

Two consecutive days: Dave’s $225 · Powder House $222

Dave’s: $125 performance + $24 helmet + $38 jacket + $38 pants. Powder House: $102 performance + $40 helmet + $40 jacket + $40 pants. The two-day subtotal difference narrows to $3. Gloves, base layers and applicable charges remain extra.

Calculation sources: Dave’s rate sheet, Dave’s fee terms, Powder House ski rates, Powder House clothing rates and child-package eligibility.

How to compare Heavenly or Palisades with those subtotals

Request the same dates, adult performance category, boots, poles and helmets; for the family example use two adults plus children aged 8 and 10. Record the equipment subtotal, clothing from a separate supplier if needed, required fees, taxes, chosen protection, delivery and parking separately.

Then compare the final payable total, not a starting rate. Neither resort’s public overview supplies a fixed price for this exact basket. Palisades uses demand-based pricing. Heavenly’s advertised savings vary with timing, package and eligibility.

If a lesson includes equipment, replace the duplicate equipment charge with the lesson’s actual inclusion; do not count the same rental twice. A refundable card authorization is separate from a nonrefundable reservation charge.

Ski clothes, helmets and goggles: what can you rent?

Tahoe Dave’s

Jackets, pants/bibs, helmets and goggles appear on its rental list. Its rate sheet says clothing and accessories have no guaranteed availability, even though the FAQ allows reservation add-ons. Confirm sizes with the pickup branch.

Powder House

Jackets, pants and helmets are extra-cost rentals. Its FAQ lists gloves, hats and goggles for purchase only. The clothing list includes child pants and helmets; confirm a child’s jacket size and stock directly.

Heavenly’s rental FAQ says ski clothing is not available for rent. Resort retail purchases are a different expense. Palisades’ equipment page does not establish a clothing-rental offer. Reserve outerwear separately if you need it, and bring your own base layers and socks. Confirm cleaning, damage charges and return arrangements before paying for an outfit.

Tahoe Dave’s: rates, fitting and returns

One-day ski or snowboard packages start at $54 basic, $65 performance and $79 demo. Helmets are separate. Compare the appropriate category for your ability rather than paying for a demo label you do not need.

  • Timing: the current FAQ permits free pickup after 3 p.m. the day before and return by 10 a.m. the morning after the last rental day. Check branch opening hours; the privilege does not mean every branch opens before your lesson. Any Dave’s branch can accept returns without an additional location charge. Days you keep the gear are charged, including rest days.
  • Fitting: all renters attend; under-18s need a parent/legal guardian for paperwork. A category reservation does not secure an exact model or size.
  • Payment and cancellation: the FAQ specifies a 5% nonrefundable reservation deposit. The terms apply it toward your final rental, with the remainder due at pickup; cancellation forfeits the deposit without charging the remaining balance. Bring photo ID and a physical credit card for authorization, even if paying by mobile wallet.

Palisades Tahoe: collect at the right base

Full ski rentals include skis, boots and poles; snowboard packages include the board and boots. Helmets cost extra. Multi-day ski/board storage is included. The resort also links to delivery through Ski Butlers; check the lodging address and delivery quote separately. Packages and storage.

Bring your confirmation and ID. For a rental booked with a lesson, follow the lesson check-in instructions, not just the general rental counter’s address. The published pre-arrival policy provides a full rental refund until 3 p.m. two days before the rental date, then a $25 cancellation fee. That guide also contains older-season material, so confirm that these terms govern your particular 2026–27 product. Rental arrival and cancellation details.

Powder House: independent South Shore rentals

Published one-day ski packages: performance $51, high performance $58, demo $67; child $37. Snowboard packages: performance $51, demo $62, child $37. Skis include boots and poles; snowboard packages include boots and bindings. Helmets and outerwear are separate. Ski rates · Snowboard rates.

Four-day example: its booking product lists an adult performance ski package at $153 for four consecutive days, reflecting the free fourth day. This is equipment only, not a complete outfit or final fee-inclusive quote. Four-day product price.

Confirm with your branch: the reservation FAQ says free previous-day pickup starts at 2 p.m.; the equipment FAQ says 3–8 p.m. Late-night hours and online discount percentages also vary between pages. Early return or extension charges are settled at return, but these pages do not establish a universal cancellation refund, normal return cutoff or final R.E.F. amount. Get those in writing for your order. Reservation FAQ · Equipment FAQ.

See the shop before choosing pickup

Heavenly: shop pickup or delivery

Choose your exact base and package before booking. The 2026–27 FAQ offers adult-only Pick Your Own Demo at participating locations. Children 12 and under retain children’s pricing even when they need adult sizes; availability still depends on fit. Helmets are add-ons.

  • Pickup: after 3 p.m. the previous day at no extra charge. Eligible delivery needs at least 48 hours’ notice; confirm your lodging is covered.
  • Rest days and early returns: arrange a rest day with staff at pickup. Unused full days can be refunded; returns after 9 a.m. are charged for that day. This is an early-return billing rule, not a universal normal return deadline.
  • Canceling: the detailed FAQ allows a full refund when canceled up to 24 hours before 8 a.m. local time on your first rental day. Inside that window call 970-754-0033; no-shows are nonrefundable.

What does Reddit have to say?

A January 2025 r/tahoe discussion about arriving late near Stagecoach illustrates the convenience tradeoff: the traveler wanted to avoid delaying friends, and commenters favored fitting near the lodging/base instead of detouring to the Gondola. Others described using town shops or delivery.

Those are individual anecdotes, not a shop-quality consensus or reliable current hours. Our takeaway is to budget for the whole morning: fitting, travel, lift access and the meeting point. The official Heavenly directory confirms the Stagecoach rental location; verify operations and your lesson base independently.

Ski-bike rentals are a separate decision

Lake Tahoe Tours & Rentals advertises ski-bike rentals and lessons. Ask for a quote separating bike, helmet, instruction, delivery and lift ticket: its page has both additional-equipment-cost wording and an included-bike/helmet panel, so inclusions need confirmation for the exact product.

Heavenly’s device policy permits qualifying factory-built ski bikes with no more than two metal-edged skis, a seat and one rider. They must fit the chair and load without slowing/stopping it; some areas and lifts can be restricted. A shop’s delivery list is not resort permission. Confirm the actual model with resort staff.

Before you reserve: a five-minute checklist

  1. Match the base. Write down lodging, exact pickup branch, lesson check-in and return location. Ask whether a different branch can accept your return.
  2. Match the basket. Use the same days, skier levels, child ages, boots, poles, helmets and clothing for every quote. Check what the lesson already includes.
  3. Get the final bill. Separate required fees/tax from optional protection, delivery, lift tickets and parking. Ask how rest days, extensions and early returns change it.
  4. Plan fitting. Bring required ID/card, socks and everyone who needs equipment. Tell the technician your actual ability and any fit concerns; have compatibility checked if using your own boots or equipment.
  5. Keep the terms. Save the cancellation cutoff, pickup/return times and a branch contact. Check road and mountain conditions before departure.

How we compared the options

We checked operator rate sheets, booking-product descriptions, location directories and rental FAQs on October 25, 2026. The arithmetic is ours; no reservation was made and no shop was personally tested. We retained source disagreements and missing fee amounts instead of estimating them. This guide compares four services in different areas, not every Tahoe shop and not an overall cheapest-provider ranking.
