Lake Tahoe Sleigh Rides: Sand Harbor Prices & Booking

For a winter ride beside Lake Tahoe, start with Borges at Sand Harbor on the East Shore. Choose the date and meeting point before planning the rest of the day. A horse-drawn outing can operate without snow; a winter reservation does not promise a ride on runners.

By the I Love Lake Tahoe editorial team · Checked October 25, 2026; policies and private booking rechecked October 26. We reviewed the operator, its live booking page and Nevada State Parks. This is a researched guide, not a personal ride review. Calendar availability is a dated observation, not a confirmed opening or weather guarantee.

Meet at the Visitor Center. The booking page labels this a group tour; buying several tickets does not establish exclusive use of a vehicle.

What the current booking calendar shows

On October 25, the official group-tour calendar showed availability on November 27–30, 2026. Selecting Sunday, November 29 offered 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The 11 a.m. selection displayed an 11:55 a.m. finish and ticket prices of $60 adult and $30 child. These slots can sell out or change.

Allow roughly an hour for the ride, then add arrival time. The homepage calls it 55 minutes; the booking description says 50 minutes, while the selected slot spans 55. The homepage lists 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and the contact page lists winter hours of 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Follow your confirmed departure, not the earliest hour mentioned on a general page. Ride overview · Operator FAQ.

  1. Open the group-tour calendar and select your actual date and time.
  2. Check every rider’s category, especially age 16 and children under two.
  3. Review the final fees, weather arrangements, cancellation deadline and meeting instructions before paying.
  4. Save the confirmation and check the operator’s news and road conditions before leaving.

Our sample stopped at the contact-information stage: no guest details, payment or reservation were submitted. A final checkout total was not visible there. Published prices below are planning subtotals, not an all-inclusive quote.

Ride prices and whole-group budgets

Regular listed rate

Adult $60 · child $30

The operator lists the child band as ages 2–16.

Saturdays & holidays

Adult $75 · child $40

Check the calendar’s actual price: do not decide holiday pricing from the weekday alone.

These published ride rates exclude the separate park charge. Nevada State Parks lists $10 per Nevada-registered vehicle or $15 per non-Nevada vehicle. The vehicle’s registration matters, not where the passengers live. Extra checkout charges, transport, meals and tips are not included in our arithmetic. Park fees.

Two adults: regular date versus Saturday/holiday

$130–$135 regular · $160–$165 peak

Regular: 2 × $60 + one $10/$15 vehicle. Saturday/holiday: 2 × $75 + that same vehicle charge. The ride-date premium is $30 per couple; it does not buy additional ride time in the listed description.

Two adults + children aged 8 and 10

$190–$195 regular · $240–$245 peak

Regular: 2 × $60 + 2 × $30 = $180 for tickets, plus one vehicle. Peak: 2 × $75 + 2 × $40 = $230, plus one vehicle. The difference is $50 for this family. Ages 8 and 10 avoid the booking form’s overlapping age-16 labels.

Four adults arriving in one car or two

Regular: $250–$255 in one car

Tickets total $240. Two Nevada-registered cars make the planning total $260; two non-Nevada cars make it $270. Sharing one suitable vehicle saves one park entry charge: $10 or $15. Do not exceed legal passenger capacity to save parking.

For a custom party, use adult count × adult rate + child count × child rate + each vehicle’s admission, then add the checkout fees actually shown. For an exclusive outing, use the separate private product below; buying several group tickets does not make the ride private.

Shared or private: what does the upgrade cost?

The operator’s private-ride page lists $100 per adult and $50 per child aged 2–16 for a 55-minute Sand Harbor outing. The separate private booking calendar confirmed those ticket prices for November 29, 2026, at 11 a.m., with an 11:55 finish, when checked October 25 and rechecked October 26. This is a dated ticket-price check; final checkout fees remain unverified.

Couple or family: calculate the private-ride premium

Two adults: $200 in private tickets, or $210–$215 including one vehicle’s park admission, before any checkout charges. That is $80 more in tickets than the regular shared ride, or $50 more than the published Saturday/holiday shared rate.

Two adults and children aged 8 and 10: $300 in private tickets, or $310–$315 with one vehicle’s park admission, before any checkout charges. The ticket premium is $120 over regular shared pricing or $70 over Saturday/holiday shared pricing.

These are calculations from listed per-person rates, not completed bookings. The private and group listings both describe about 55 minutes: the premium buys the private product, rather than a promised longer outing. Recheck the actual date’s price before choosing.

Minimum party, larger groups and the photo stop

The private calendar required at least two spots before making a departure selectable. Two adults satisfied that minimum in our sample; do not budget a solo private ride at just the one-adult rate without confirming the booking rules.

The private description says its vehicles accommodate roughly four to ten average-sized adults and directs parties of ten or more to call for reservation help. Use that contact instruction even for exactly ten people; it is not a guarantee that a particular vehicle will fit your party.

The described route includes a stop at South Beach where riders can get off for photographs, then board again for the wooded return. If transfers or steps are difficult, ask whether you can remain aboard at that stop and what boarding assistance is available. The description does not establish step measurements, a ramp or wheelchair access.

Call 775-588-2953 before paying when party size, infant seating or boarding arrangements could determine whether the ride works for you.

Find the Sand Harbor Visitor Center

The park address is 2005 Highway 28, Incline Village, Nevada. Use “Sand Harbor Visitor Center” in navigation and compare it with your booking confirmation. Park at a designated lot; roadside parking and drop-offs on Highway 28 are prohibited. Park directions and restrictions.

Arrival sequence

Confirmed Sand Harbor departure → road check → park entrance and vehicle admission → designated parking → Visitor Center meeting point → operator check-in.

This is a planning sequence, not a surveyed accessible route or a promise of a particular parking space.

Google Maps orientation map. Open the Visitor Center map. Follow the confirmed meeting instructions; the map does not show a verified winter boarding route.

The park’s listed vehicle-reservation season is May 15–September 30, separate from reserving a winter ride. Its Visitor Center is open year-round, and winter parking lots are cleared, but ice and temporary closures remain possible. Read our Sand Harbor guide and check road and weather conditions.

Without a car: the operator lists TahoeExpress at 530-416-6555 for transport from South Lake Tahoe or Incline Village. Obtain a round-trip quote, exact pickup and park-entry inclusions; it is not a confirmed free winter shuttle. Do not use summer East Shore bus information as a winter timetable.

See the ride before deciding

Outdoor Nevada / Vegas PBS, June 28, 2016, 4m 54s: John Burke visits the Borges ride at Sand Harbor. This historical film shows the setting and horse-drawn experience; it does not establish current snow, equipment assignments, accessibility or prices.

What a low-snow outing can look like: in Michelle Allen’s February 2020 Tahoe Guide account, the family rode on wheels and stopped beside a snow-free beach. Katherine E. Hill’s photographs accompany that firsthand report. Its old prices and tour lengths are not current booking terms.

Snow, cancellations and the 48-hour decision

Before Friday, November 27, 11 a.m.

Make the cancellation decision. For a Sunday, November 29, 11 a.m. ride, this is the 48-hour boundary. Decide earlier whether wheels, limited snow and the expected weather suit your group. Save any cancellation confirmation.

Saturday, November 28

Confirm the actual operation. The FAQ recommends calling 24 hours ahead about location, weather and roads. This later check does not extend the cancellation deadline. Ask about vehicle setup, boarding and your confirmed meeting point.

Sunday, November 29

Check again before travel. Read road and operator updates. If access becomes unsafe or uncertain, contact the operator about your booking; do not treat inability to reach the park as an automatic operator cancellation.

Two checks serve different purposes: decide about cancellation before the 48-hour cutoff, then use the FAQ’s 24-hour call to confirm the outing. All example times are local. Your confirmation governs the exact cancellation method, fees and no-show terms.

The operator says rides can run with or without snow. If gliding on runners is essential, ask which setup is planned before your cancellation deadline; an operating ride with little snow is different from an operator cancellation. Severe weather can still close the activity at short notice.

The cancellation policy sets a 48-hour cutoff and promises a full refund if the operator cancels. Its contact-page FAQ specifies a full refund before that cutoff and 50% forfeiture within it. Confirm the terms attached to your exact booking, including no-shows and road closures affecting your arrival.

Example: your ride is Sunday at 11 a.m.

Forty-eight hours earlier is Friday at 11 a.m., local time. Set your reminder earlier than that to allow time to contact the operator. For the two-adult/two-child regular ticket subtotal of $180, a 50% ticket penalty would be $90; this illustration does not determine how a booking platform handles its separate fees.

A Saturday weather check occurs after this example’s refund cutoff. Check the forecast and your willingness to take a low-snow ride before Friday morning, then check actual operation again before travel.

The news archive contains both closures and opening notices from January–March 2026. Those are past-season reports. Neither a snowy photograph nor an old “open” post confirms your 2026–27 departure.

Children, blankets, pets and boarding

Before paying: four answers that can change your booking

Use this checklist with Borges at 775-588-2953. It is a question list, not a record of a conversation or a promise that every request can be accommodated.

  1. Exact riders and product: give the date, departure, shared/private choice and every child’s age. For age 16, ask which category to select in that product. For an infant, ask about a required ticket, seat or lap arrangement and any restraint rule. “All ages welcome” does not settle those details.
  2. Boarding twice: ask about the first step, handholds, assistance, transfers and mobility-aid storage on the assigned vehicle. For the private South Beach photo stop, confirm whether staying aboard is possible. If a necessary transfer cannot be confirmed, keep the booking undecided and choose a suitable alternative.
  3. The complete price: request tickets, mandatory booking charges, taxes and any optional extras itemized for the exact party. Add park admission once per vehicle unless a transport quote explicitly includes it. A ticket subtotal or missing fee line is not a final payable total.
  4. Weather and missed access: ask how to cancel, whether separate booking fees are refunded, and what happens if roads prevent arrival while the ride still operates. Record the answer with the booking terms before the deadline.

Park questions go to a different team: call Sand Harbor at 775-831-0494 for winter parking, the Visitor Center approach or Trackchair availability. The park page lists office hours of 8 a.m.–4 p.m., Tuesday–Friday, so make advance access inquiries before a weekend trip. Park staff cannot establish the operator’s vehicle boarding arrangements.

  • Age 16 needs clarification: the booking page labels adults “16+” and children “2–16,” so the categories overlap. Confirm the correct ticket for a 16-year-old. The general FAQ welcomes all ages but does not specify Sand Harbor infant seating or pricing; ask before adding an under-two rider.
  • Blankets: the operator FAQ says blankets are available. Dress for sitting outdoors with layers, gloves and footwear with traction; do not treat a blanket as a substitute for suitable clothing.
  • Boarding and mobility: the reviewed operator pages do not establish step height, ramp access, wheelchair accommodation, transfer assistance or child-restraint arrangements. Ask about the exact vehicle, your boarding needs and storage for a mobility aid before buying. Park accessibility is not proof of sleigh accessibility.
  • Group size: the FAQ describes vehicles of several sizes. That fleet description does not promise your whole group a private vehicle or guarantee a specific layout.

Operator FAQ and contact: 775-588-2953. We reviewed published information; no direct conversation or individualized boarding assessment is claimed.

Dogs: the ride advertises leashed pets. Sand Harbor permits pets October 15–April 15 on leashes no longer than six feet. Confirm ride space and arrangements with the operator and follow park rules. Seasonal pet rules.

A flexible half-day plan

Family with an 11 a.m. booking

One main reservation

Use 10:30 a.m. as an editorial arrival target for parking, restrooms and check-in, unless the confirmation requires earlier. This 30-minute allowance is not an operator requirement or a measured wait. After the approximately 11:55 finish, leave lunch flexible in Incline Village.

Keep optional shoreline time short if children are cold. Avoid a second prepaid appointment across the lake.

Couple staying on the South Shore

Decide the travel tradeoff first

For the Sand Harbor setting, plan the East Shore journey around the actual ride and a flexible meal. Check the return route before committing to an evening reservation.

If a town carriage is the main attraction, check the separate South Shore product and its operating season before making the drive north.

For mobility planning at the park itself, Nevada State Parks describes an all-terrain Trackchair program. Confirm availability and instructions with the park; it is a separate recreation option, not a boarding solution for this ride.

Choose your backup before leaving: compare indoor activities or ice skating venues, then check that venue’s current hours. For a longer visit, use our lodging-area guide, couples’ ideas, family activities and winter guide.

What does Reddit have to say?

A February 2022 r/tahoe discussion questioned whether a shared sleigh video showed current snow; another commenter described wheels for low-snow operation while acknowledging they had not visited recently. It is a useful reminder to ask about the actual surface and vehicle, not evidence of today’s conditions or a consensus review.

The thread also contains disagreement about horse-drawn tourism. Travelers for whom this matters can read the operator’s animal-welfare statements and choose accordingly. Those statements are the business’s account, not an independent welfare audit.

How we checked this guide

We compared the operator’s overview, private-ride page, contact FAQ, cancellation policy, dated news and both official booking flows with park information on October 25, 2026. The private calendar’s two-spot minimum, ticket labels and November 29 prices were checked without supplying contact information or advancing to payment. On October 26 we rechecked the private booking sample, operator FAQ and cancellation policy, and park contact information. The decision timeline separates the cancellation boundary from the later conditions call; the before-payment checklist shows how to resolve party-specific uncertainties without assuming access or a final fee. The budget arithmetic, cancellation example and outing plans are our synthesis. We preserved conflicts about hours, duration and age 16, and left unverified boarding details explicit. Historical media and visitor accounts are attributed. No ride was purchased, no guest data was submitted and no field visit is claimed.
