Lake Tahoe Ice Skating: Where to Go and What to Check

For indoor skating, start with Tahoe Ice Arena in South Lake Tahoe. For an outdoor outing, choose a village or town rink near your lodging, then check its public-session calendar.

Checked October 23, 2026. Outdoor 2026–27 calendars remain incomplete. The status notes below describe what operators had published, not guaranteed opening dates; a ski resort’s opening is not its rink’s opening.

South Lake Tahoe and Stateline

South Lake Tahoe: Tahoe Ice Arena

Choose the indoor arena if your priority is skating rather than an outdoor village setting. It is at 1176 Rufus Allen Boulevard and has a live calendar separating public sessions from hockey and other programs. Public skating doesn’t require a reservation, according to the operator, but you still need to choose an actual public session. Arena information and daily calendar

The currently posted admission is $20 per session for skaters over 10 who need rentals, or $16 with their own skates. Ages 4-10 pay $10 with or without rentals; children three and younger are free. Hockey and figure skates are available, along with skating helpers for beginners.

All participants need liability waivers. Sessions have limited capacity, schedules can change, and purchases are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Those details matter if you’re fitting a skate between other reservations. Public-skate rates and conditions

South Lake Tahoe: Heavenly Village Ice Rink

Heavenly Village makes sense when skating is part of an afternoon around the village rather than a separate drive. The outdoor rink’s operator describes a November-to-April season, weather permitting, but that is a general season window, not a confirmed 2026-27 opening date.

Its published sessions are 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1-3 p.m., 3:30-5:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Don’t assume one admission buys all-day access: the operator says admission is per session during busy periods, with all-day skating offered at management’s discretion. Heavenly visitor information

Admission distinguishes rental skates from bringing your own. Confirm the current price for your session. Heavenly admission and rentals.

Stateline: Edgewood on Ice

Edgewood’s outdoor resort rink is another South Shore choice. Its activity page lists evening skating from 4-9:30 p.m., with the last ticket sold at 9 p.m. It also warns of weather changes and possible 30-minute resurfacing closures. The page does not clearly establish the full 2026-27 season dates, so those hours shouldn’t be read as proof the rink is open on your travel date. Edgewood on Ice

Confirm admission, rental inclusion and access for non-hotel guests before traveling. Read Edgewood’s rink rules.

North Shore, Truckee and Olympic Valley

North Shore: Tahoe City Winter Sports Park

Tahoe City’s rink suits visitors based around Tahoe City who don’t want a resort trip just to skate. It’s an outdoor option at the Tahoe City Golf Course, with other winter activities nearby when conditions permit. Regional rink overview

The operator’s page says it expects to welcome skaters again in November 2026. It describes 90-minute rink slots and recommends advance reservations, with limited walk-up availability. However, the detailed hours still include 2025-26 hockey and curling dates. Use the reservation calendar for your visit instead of carrying those old weekly hours into the new season.

Before paying, check whether your selected ticket includes skate rental and whether any other activity you want is actually available. An operating rink doesn’t guarantee enough snow for sledding or trails. Winter Sports Park information and reservations

Near Truckee: Northstar Village

Northstar’s outdoor rink sits in the resort village, inland from Lake Tahoe. It’s a practical choice if your group is already spending the day at Northstar, including people who aren’t skiing. The resort says the rink is open to everyone and offers skate rentals. Northstar village activities

At the October check, the rink was listed as closed with ice skating due to return. Current-season admission, rental charges and helmet availability need confirmation. Check current resort hours.

Truckee: Truckee Ice Rink

Truckee’s municipal outdoor rink is at Truckee River Regional Park, 10500 Brockway Road, about half a mile south of downtown. This is a Truckee outing, not a lakeshore rink.

The district offers public skating, rentals and private lessons. Its page still showed a seasonal closure at the October check, so don’t treat the displayed Friday-through-Sunday hours as a confirmed reopening schedule. Admission and skate rental are separate charges, and the rink accepts credit cards only. Check the district’s new-season update before choosing a date. Truckee Ice Rink

Olympic Valley: Everline Resort

Everline’s outdoor rink is in Olympic Valley, not Tahoe City or on the lake. The resort lists figure skates, hockey skates and helmets for rent. Confirm non-guest access and the full admission-and-rental charge with its recreation team before heading over. Everline winter activities

There is some specific 2026 holiday programming: its holiday page lists skating with Santa on December 24-27, noon-2 p.m. That is an announced event, not a complete public-skating schedule. The resort also announces a November 2-23, 2026 closure. Recheck the event and weather status close to your visit. Everline’s 2026 holiday calendar

Skating with children

  • Heavenly Village: Smallest rental is toddler size 9. Children four and younger skate free with an adult. Operator admission details.
  • Tahoe Ice Arena: Ages 4–10 pay $10 with or without rentals; three and younger are free. Beginner skating helpers are available. Public-skate conditions.
  • Edgewood: Smallest skate is children’s size 12. Under-12s need an accompanying adult; carrying children on the ice is prohibited. Helmets are recommended. Rink rules.
  • Before choosing: Check skate fit, helmet availability, supervision and whether skating aids or parking cost extra. Public skating, hockey and lessons are different calendar slots.

Before you choose a session

For an outdoor rink, keep a second option nearby rather than planning a cross-region drive if weather changes. In South Lake Tahoe, the indoor arena is worth checking first, provided its public-session calendar fits your day.
