South Shore: tracks and guided tours
Tahoe Snowmobiles: short sessions near South Shore lodging
- Riders: Tahoe Snowmobiles lists track locations at Stateline and Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Its rules allow passengers aged five and older if the helmet fits. A driver carrying a minor must be at least 18 with a valid driver’s license. The separate rule for 16- and 17-year-old drivers requires government-issued ID and an adult passenger with ID.
- Equipment & parking: Two helmets and head socks are included, but gloves, goggles and snow clothing are not. Verify the current session price and operating location before booking: the location page still refers to the 2025-26 season. Stateline has no on-site parking; the golf-course location lists free parking.
Lake Tahoe Adventures: Hope Valley with a Zephyr Cove check-in
- Tour & price: The Summit Snowmobile Tour rides in Hope Valley, south of Lake Tahoe. Its published schedule runs December 5, 2026 through April 30, 2027, weather permitting. Listed rates are $250 plus tax for one driver or $280 plus tax for a driver and passenger, per machine.
- Check-in & inclusions: The important planning detail is the check-in: the tour page directs guests to the main lodge lobby at Zephyr Cove Resort, 760 US-50, 2 hours and 15 minutes before the tour. It includes parking and shuttle transportation, and says there is no trailhead parking. A helmet, snowmobile and guide are included; winter clothing rentals cost extra.
- Conflicting directions: Do not drive straight to Hope Valley based on where the ride takes place. The operator’s general policies page still shows different Summit directions and a shorter arrival window. Confirm the location and check-in time on your reservation with the operator before traveling.
- Rider eligibility: The Summit FAQ welcomes beginners and says the standard tour stays on designated trails. It also says drivers generally cannot switch during a regular tour, unlike the Exclusive option. A double-rider booking should not be treated as a promise that both adults can take a turn driving. The published minimum passenger age is five; confirm driver eligibility when booking.
Zephyr Cove: compare the Scenic Lakeview tour separately
- Route: Zephyr Cove’s Scenic Lakeview Tour is a two-hour guided ride advertised around mountain meadows and Lake Tahoe views. It is a different product from the Hope Valley Summit tour, even though both direct guests to Zephyr Cove Resort.
- Arrival: Its tour page tells visitors to arrive one hour early, although a lower policy section contains different check-in wording. Ask for the exact arrival time attached to your booking. Do not apply Summit’s 2-hour-15-minute requirement to every Zephyr Cove excursion.
- Riders & inclusions: The operator’s snowmobiling information lists a minimum passenger age of five, drivers aged 16 or older and written parental or guardian consent for drivers under 18. Its ID language varies between sections, so drivers should bring a valid driver’s license and confirm requirements before booking. Double-rider machines have a 450-pound limit. Transportation, helmet, machine and guide are listed as included.
North Lake Tahoe and Truckee
North Lake Tahoe: Brockway Summit and a separate Eagle Ridge base
- Summit base: Lake Tahoe Snowmobile Tours advertises two-hour group and private Summit tours, plus longer private rides. Its main base is at Brockway Summit on Highway 267, which makes it worth comparing if you are staying around Kings Beach, Northstar or Truckee.
- Private-tour base: The operator also advertises three- and four-hour private tours from an Eagle Ridge location at Little Truckee Summit, north of Truckee. These are different starting points. Confirm which base your chosen tour uses before setting your navigation.
- Season & eligibility: The website mentions November-through-April bookings without identifying a season year. Treat that as a general seasonal description, not proof that a particular 2026-27 date will operate. Confirm driver and passenger eligibility, included clothing and cancellation terms with the office.
Coldstream Adventures: guided rides near Truckee
- Tour & arrival: Coldstream’s public tours combine guests into a guided group and include riding instruction. The operator describes approximately two-hour outings and requests arrival at least 30 minutes early. Use the location in your booking confirmation; its contact page provides directions and booking support.
- Prices & inclusions: The current rates page lists public single-rider prices of $260 on weekdays and $270 on weekends and holidays. Doubles are $300 and $310 respectively. It states that a 6% tax and booking fee applies. Helmets, goggles, guide, snowmobile, fuel and instruction are listed as included; winter clothing and boots are extra. Private tours require at least four snowmobiles.
- Rider eligibility: Coldstream’s rider policies allow drivers aged 16 and up, with a valid license required for 16- and 17-year-olds. All prospective drivers are asked to bring their license. Passengers must be at least five, able to sit securely and follow instructions. The limit is 450 pounds per machine. Driver changes require eligibility and guide approval.
Check cancellations before committing
Weather affects both the ride and your ability to reach it. Ask what happens if the operator cancels, and separately what happens if you cannot get there.
Lake Tahoe Adventures’ Summit page offers a full refund for changes or cancellations more than 48 hours before the tour and forfeiture of the deposit within that window. Coldstream lists refunds at 72 hours or more, with later cancellations typically receiving future credit. Its policy says weather and road conditions are not refundable events unless Coldstream cancels.
Before paying, confirm the final total, clothing costs, exact check-in, every rider’s eligibility and the cancellation deadline. Save those details with your reservation. They matter more than choosing the lowest advertised starting price.
Plan the rest of your day with our Lake Tahoe winter activities guide. Before leaving, check the Tahoe road and weather planning links and use the winter packing list to prepare clothing the operator does not supply.
